CDEM 'fee-free' training - EM (ACE)

The Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) established the 'Emergency Management Adult and Community Education' fund, known as EM (ACE) for the specific purpose of training Civil Defence volunteers. The purpose of the fund is to enable approved CDEM volunteers who meet all of the entry criteria to access quality training at no cost to themselves or their CDEM organisation. To be eligible for 'fee-free' EM (ACE) funded training, attendees must meet all of the following criteria:

Criterion 1: Be a CDEM Volunteer

For the purpose of the EM (ACE) fund, volunteer refers to an unpaid worker who willingly donates their time and effort to civil defence emergency management. For the purpose of the EM (ACE) fund all council employees who are not employed as a CDEM professional be regarded as volunteers and as such should be eligible to access the EM ACE Fund.

Criterion 2: Be a New Zealand citizen OR resident

2a: A New Zealand citizen and provide an original or certified copy of one or more of the following documents:
i) a New Zealand birth certificate; or
ii) a New Zealand passport; or
iii) a New Zealand certificate of citizenship;
OR
2b: A New Zealand resident and provide an original or certified copy of one or more of the following documents:
a) a passport with a current returning residency class visa (a passport with a visa label); or
b) a passport, and letter or email, confirming current returning residency class visa followed by confirmation with Immigration New Zealand, where appropriate); or
c) a certificate of identity from Immigration New Zealand if the student is a refugee.

NOTE: Persons on Student Visa's and Work Visa's do not meet the TEC eligibility criteria for EM (ACE).

EM (ACE) Training Fund

The EM (ACE) fund was established by TEC (Tertiary Education Commission) to support volunteers in the fields of civil defence emergency management and fire fighting to achieve an appropriate class and level of training and accreditation.
The Skills Organisation (Skills International) has also been granted the role of administering the Emergency Management (ACE) Fund by the Tertiary Education Commission.
The Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management (MCDEM) determines the training priorities and needs for the sector in association with the Emergecny Management Governance Group.
