The Search and Rescue Institute New Zealand (SARINZ) is an international centre of Search and Rescue (SAR) excellence. Its sole purpose is to support SAR in its efforts to save lives in back country, rural, urban, coastal or workplace environs.

SARINZ succeeds by providing customised and standards based Search and Rescue:

Excellence is achieved via strategic partnerships with leading international SAR experts and organisations who work closely with dedicated SARINZ technical specialists.

SARINZ has a unique business model of providing onsite training and support to core SAR organisations such as NZ Police, NZ Land SAR, Fonterra, Department of Conservation and Antarctica NZ. SARINZ support services and skills based training have proved to be beneficial to other groups including schools, companies, government agencies and individuals committed to SAR.

SARINZ has charitable status which requires all profit to be reinvested into SAR in New Zealand entirely consistent with our motto of helping others to save lives.

Statement of Purpose

To save lives and reduce trauma and suffering by establishing a sustainable international centre of Search and Rescue excellence

SARINZ success is measured in lives saved. Our services and products must reduce trauma, suffering and grief for individuals directly involved in SAR incidents to ultimately benefit the whole community.

Vision Statement

In the year 2013 (10 years following SARINZ conception) SARINZ will be:

  • True to its founding purpose to save lives, reduce trauma and suffering
  • Respected in the international SAR community
  • A sustainable entity operating beyond the individual
  • Recognised as an established international centre of SAR excellence

Who is SARINZ?

The Search and Rescue Institute New Zealand (SARINZ) consists of two parts - SARINZ Trust and its operational arm SARINZ Ltd.

Established in 2002, from the assets of Emergency Management Ltd (EML) - a SAR training company established in 1994, SARINZ was set up by a group of like minded individuals who could see a need for high quality professional SAR training, research and development.
