
You are in charge of a group in the outdoors. The weather is turning rough. Shelter is an hour away. Twilight is rapidly approaching. You regroup and discover one person is missing. Nobody has seen them for more than thirty minutes... The same thought flashes through everyone's mind: "What the heck do we do now?"
You are responsible for the missing person and the welfare of the group. The situation calls for decisive and directive leadership. You are under pressure to do something... but what?
This course is designed to provide outdoor leaders, educators and guides with practical strategies and skills to effectively deal with this type of incident and many more. We will add a range of practical options to your existing skill base to keep you, and your group, from having to ask: "What the heck do we do now?"
The result will be more confident leaders with a wide range of skills to prevent, prepare and deal with incidents and emergencies in the outdoors.
Specific objectives for your training will be tailored to suit your organisations requirements, but will likely include any or all of the following:

Duration: The workshop can be fully customised to meet your organisations training needs, and as such the timing varies. One day? Two days? Multiple days? You decide. No matter what duration, we recommend approximately 8am until 10pm on day one to accommodate training activities after dark.
Course recommended for: anyone involved in taking people into the outdoors including Eco-tourism/Tourism operators, EOTC staff, Outdoor Educators/Teachers/Instructors, School teachers, Outdoor Education/Pursuit Centres, Wilderness Guides.
Cost: Contact SARINZ to discuss your training requirements, desired outcomes, dates, timetable and number of participants and we will provide you with a quote specific to your needs.
Venue hire, participant accommodation and catering are a local cost.
Pre-requisites: Entry criteria is subject to the terms and conditions agreed to between the host organisation and SARINZ.
Venue recommendations: classroom type setting for inside work with 1-2 large whiteboards, Overhead projector, PowerPoint projector screen, multi box and extension cord. Access to an area of bush, walking tracks or general wilderness area for practical exercises.
Participant requirements: Open to agreement between the host organisation and SARINZ.
Course Numbers: Negotiable depending on your training requirements.
