Refresher training for the main search courses is now available. Currently this consists of a one day TCA/Sign Cutting refresher and a one day Search Methods refresher.

Refresher training for other Search courses will be available in 2009.

Refresher training consists of one day workshops to update, refresh and renew the key skills, concepts and methodologies from the original courses.  These are practical based, hands-on days where you will be out performing the various techniques and skills.

Every refresher will have a large focus on practical skills and attendees being able to refine and implement the systems, whilst receiving feedback from their fellow students and Instructors that will allow each student to become even more operationally proficient.

Only ever completed a Search Methods course? No problem, each refresher day is an independent workshop. If you can only make one day just inform your course organiser and they will find someone to fill the spot for the other day. Each of the above refreshers are capped at 24 people - so be in quick, these spots go fast.

As the intention is to focus on the practical applications of the skills, attendees must have previously completed the full course with SARINZ. This saves having to re-teach the "basic" skills and concepts and allows a great focus on getting out and doing practical exercises.

As the refresher training is non-standards based no formal assessment will occur, however students will be encouraged to share experiences and provide feedback to other students to benefit each individual, their SAR groups and ultimately benefit future subjects of SAR operations.

Generally the TCA/Sign Cutting refresher will run on the first day and the Search Methods refresher on the second day unless requested otherwise. You should confirm this with your course organiser.

NOTE: Not all aspects of the original courses can be refreshed due to time constraints. The focus of the current refresher days are purely on the core subjects. It is hoped that other aspects of the main courses will be included in future refresher courses.
