Regional/Local Course Assistant

Description: To complete tasks as required under the direction of the nominated course instructor to assist in the smooth running of the two day workshop.

Location:  Within own area or region(s) as defined by the applicant.

Which Courses:  Applicants are currently sought to assist on Search Methods and/or Track and Clue Awareness (TCA) courses depending on their knowledge, skill and/or abilities.

Remuneration:  Course Assistants will be paid $200/day ($400 for the 2 day workshop) plus reimbursement of reasonable expenses incurred.

Key Tasks:

  • Complete a lot of the background “leg-work”
  • To assist in setting up practical exercises where appropriate
  • To assist with the practical exercises where appropriate

Key Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes:

Knowledge:

  • Solid understanding of modern SAR practises (at least 5 years experience in LandSAR with training, SAREX and/or operational experience)
  • Solid understanding of the operational application of the methodology (have used it operationally and understand the benefits of the techniques)
  • Operational experience to anchor methodology and provide examples
  • Preferably be involved, or have been involved, in a current local training capacity – i.e. have experience of teaching SAR skills to SAR people
  • Knowledge and skills are consistently demonstrated at a higher level than that being taught, i.e. have attended additional training over and above that being taught – higher level tracking courses and/or MLSO etc (understand the big picture)

  • Ability to understand instructions and interpret and adapt them for each environment
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Effective decision making
