I am an aircraft engineer by trade, but have a varied working background including 16 years in the Police, the majority of those attached to the CIB – my last posting was as the Sole Detective in Wanaka, a position which I relinquished in 2002.
I am a very passionate outdoors person and have been an active hunter, tramper and mountaineer for many years whilst also being affiliated with the Mountain Safety Council in a number of roles.
I initially became involved with Search and Rescue in North Canterbury in the mid 80s as a volunteer and this interest was maintained throughout my Police career.
In Invercargill in the 90s, I was a member of the Southland Alpine & Cliff Rescue (ACR) Team where I served as the Police Liaison Officer and later in Wanaka as an inaugural member of the Lakes District Police SAR Team. Whilst in Wanaka I was also a volunteer member of the local ACR Team responding to many back country and alpine incidents, served as the secretary and treasurer, sat on the Region 7 LandSAR committee and was involved in fund raising, equipment acquisition and coordination of training.
I currently reside in Christchurch and I am a member of the Pegasus LandSAR Group.
My principle position within SARINZ is as the Booking Officer. This involves the booking of all courses and I am also responsible for compiling the SARINZ quarterly newsletter ‘Heads Up’, managing various projects including the development of the ‘Initial Response Search Guide’. I also instruct on a number of courses including MLSO, CIMS, Team Leader, Suburban Search and Clue Processing.
