
This course is designed to give participants skills in the use of advanced electronic mapping techniques in SAR using TUMONZ (The Ultimate Map Of New Zealand) to support search and rescue operations. Participants learn how to utilise electronic mapping functions to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of search planning and to improve visualisation of the area to optimise search resource allocation. A number of tools within the software are examined and customised to optimise the learning experience.

Duration: The core course material is normally delivered over two days with pre- course work (available on line). Assessment occurs alongside the training. Eligible for NZLSAR subsidy
Course recommended for: all search and rescue personnel involved in the management area.
Equipment requirements: Pre course work accomplished, pens, paper, calculator
Venue recommendations: Classroom type facilities with whiteboard/ datascreen facilities. Note: up to 12 laptops with program are supplied.Venue hire, participant accommodation and catering are a local cost.
Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for this course although understanding of computer systems and involvement in the search and rescue sector is preferred.
Course Numbers: Twelve (12).
