CIMS

This course is designed to give those attending, an understanding of the Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS) – its structure, elements, procedures, roles and responsibilities, as applied to search and rescue in New Zealand. This includes the planning, intelligence, logistics, operations and control functions. While there is an emphasis on CIMS application to search and rescue the course has wider relevance to emergency response generally.

Duration: The core course material is normally delivered over two days and completion of the Introductory workbook is mandatory for all those that have not previously completed CIMS 2. For most participants assessment will occur immediately after the training is completed. Course eligible for NZLSAR subsidy.

Course recommended for: all search and rescue personnel “particularly for those involved in team leadership or management” or similar at a management level of an operation.

Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for this course although involvement in the search and rescue sector or similar is an advantage.

Equipment requirements: Pre course work accomplished, pens, paper, calculator.

Venue recommendations: Classroom type facilities with extra breakout rooms available for scenarios. Venue hire, participant accommodation and catering are a local cost.

Course Numbers:minimum 12 and maximum 20

Please Note: This course includes three modules, two of which are unit standards and require a $25.00 registration “ Hook on” fee to be paid if the student is not already registered with an active NZQA number. This is a TEC requirement.
